The Cutting Season audiobook by Attica Locke

Last weekend, while I had some downtime, I decided to give The Cutting Season audiobook a shot. With a warm mug of tea in hand and tucked comfortably in my favorite chair, Quincy Tyler Bernstine’s voice transported me straight to Belle Vie.

Reading Attica Locke’s tale was like diving deep into a gripping late-night chat about racial tensions and age-old injustices that still shadow us today. Caren Gray’s story felt so real, as if she were a long-lost friend sharing her own roller-coaster of emotions and adventures. Trying to solve a mystery that’s tangled between past and present, I found myself cheering her on, as I would for a dear friend going through thick and thin.

The backdrop of Belle Vie painted a vivid picture of the challenges many face when standing up against powerful outsiders. It made me think – aren’t we all, in one way or another, facing our own Belle Vies? Bernstine’s narration was the cherry on top. It felt like she was right there, narrating a tale over a campfire, making each character come alive.

In a nutshell, The Cutting Season isn’t just another book on the shelf. It’s a heart-to-heart talk, a mystery, and a journey that uncovers deep-seated truths, all wrapped up in one. Definitely a story worth sharing with my girlfriends on our next get-together.
