Detective Sean Duffy’s character and the town of Carrickfergus took me on a roller-coaster of emotions. I felt as if I were right beside Duffy, walking the cobblestone streets, feeling the chill of the rain, and being wrapped up in the thick of the mystery. McKinty, with his intricate plotting, never lets the reader predict the next move.

Lily Bigelow’s supposed suicide was just the beginning. The more Duffy unraveled, the deeper I sank into the labyrinth of corruption and secrets. I found myself questioning every detail, every character, holding my breath at every revelation.

Gerard Doyle’s narration? Simply exceptional. His ability to bring nuances to each character, especially Duffy, made my listening experience remarkably immersive. The heartbreaks, the tensions, the little victories – I felt them all.

For someone in her 30s, like me, Duffy’s dedication, wit, and sharpness amidst challenges resonate deeply. It’s about the fight for the truth, no matter how murky the waters might get. And as the café lights dimmed, I realized McKinty’s world had once again left an indelible mark on me.
