He is trying to hide away from Sirius after he caught him killing Harry’s parents as well as thirteen Muggles.

Severus Snape is on the lookout to capture Sirius however, Harry knocks him down. Lupin along with Sirius changes Peter into a human and is preparing to kill him. Harry is able to stop them, telling the king that his father wouldn’t ever want this.
