As someone who’s always been drawn to complex stories and moral ambiguity (maybe it comes from teaching literature all these years), this book’s premise hooked me instantly: what happens when fascination twists into something far more dangerous?

Kent wastes no time immersing us in the magnetic but perilous world of Killian Carson—a character equal parts enigmatic and chilling, whose “predator wrapped in sophisticated charm” persona is both alluring and terrifying. The protagonist, swept up almost unwillingly into his orbit, became an anchor for my empathy; her internal battles felt uncannily real. More than once, I caught myself whispering out loud—don’t go down that hallway!—only to realize how effectively Kent manipulates tension.

What struck me most was the author’s refusal to sugarcoat darkness or offer easy redemption. Instead, she dives deep into themes like psychological manipulation and power dynamics with unapologetic honesty. For readers who prefer their romance lighter or strictly consensual and gentle, be warned: God of Malice doesn’t shy away from mature content or emotionally challenging territory. Personally, I appreciated this candor; life isn’t always tidy, especially where love—or obsession—is concerned.

I loved how layered Killian’s character is—not just another bad boy trope but a fully fleshed anti-hero whose actions provoke both horror and fascination. This duality made me reflect on relationships in my own life where attraction has sometimes mingled uncomfortably with uncertainty or risk (thankfully nothing as extreme as Killian!). It reminded me that boundaries matter—and also how fiction allows us to safely explore our darkest curiosities.

As for dislikes? If anything pulled me out occasionally, it was wishing for deeper glimpses into the protagonist’s past outside her connection to Killian; at times she seemed more defined by his influence than her own choices. Still, even this serves Kent’s point about losing oneself within unhealthy relationships—a theme likely intentional rather than accidental.

Narration can make or break an audiobook experience; sadly, I have to note that details about the narrator are currently unknown for God of Malice—I hope future editions find a voice actor capable of embodying both seduction and menace without slipping into caricature. With writing so raw and atmospheric, the right vocal performance could elevate every charged exchange between characters.

In sum: Listening to God of Malice felt like being willingly lured onto thin ice—dangerous but exhilarating if you trust yourself not to fall through completely. It’s dark romance done right: bold enough not only to push boundaries but ask why they’re there at all. If you seek safe escapism alone? Look elsewhere—but if you want your heart rate elevated by morally grey intrigue (and don’t mind squirming along the way), this one belongs at the top of your queue.
