Time of Contempt audiobook – The Witcher, Book 2

Under the soft canopy of my bedroom, with the hum of the city fading in the background, I pressed play on my audiobook, Time of Contempt, the second in The Witcher Saga. Being in my early 30s, fantasy has always been my escape from the hustle and bustle of adulthood, and Andrzej Sapkowski’s masterful series is no exception. With the added brilliance of David French’s translation and Peter Kenny’s mesmerizing narration, the world of Geralt felt incredibly vivid.

With every turn of events, the depth of politics, love, and betrayal painted the canvas of a world where magic is not just an art, but a game of power. Geralt, our ever-complicated Witcher, battles not only the monsters of the land but also the internal and political turmoil that seems to swirl around him, like a storm waiting to unleash its fury. His relationship with Yennefer, a powerful sorceress with her own mysteries, adds layers to the narrative, making the story more than just a tale of magic and monsters.

Yennefer’s protective instincts over Ciri, the child with a destiny that can change the course of the world, added a layer of maternal warmth and fierceness that resonated deeply with me. As they navigate through the impending wars, the politics of the magical schools, and the ever-looming prophecies, the trio’s journey becomes one of self-discovery, love, and the blurred line between right and wrong.

Peter Kenny’s narration made every emotion, every tension palpable. His voice brought to life the characters, their dilemmas, and the world in which they lived, making it a rich, immersive experience.

As dawn approached and the city began to stir again, I was left in awe of Sapkowski’s intricate world-building, the multi-dimensional characters, and the complexities of their relationships. It’s a tale that beckons you to reflect upon your own choices and the gray areas of morality.
