In the enchanting world of The Masked City audiobook by Genevieve Cogman, I found myself transported to a realm of science fiction and fantasy. As I listened to this captivating story, I couldn’t help but imagine myself sitting in a cozy cafe on a rainy afternoon, completely engrossed in the mysterious adventures unfolding before me.

The Masked City is the second chapter in the thrilling Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. As a fan of science-fiction and fantasy novels, I was excited to dive into this book and explore the intricate world created by the author.

Narrated by Kristin Atherton, The Masked City takes us on a journey alongside Irene, a Librarian spy working undercover in an alternate London. When her assistant Kai goes missing and is abducted by the fae faction, Irene must embark on a dangerous mission to save him and prevent an impending war. With its dark Venice setting and constant Carnival atmosphere, this novel is filled with intrigue and suspense.

While I enjoyed the imaginative plot of The Masked City, I must admit that Susan Duerden’s performance in the previous installment left much to be desired. However, Kristin Atherton’s narration in this audiobook was an improvement. Her voice brought depth and emotion to the characters, making it easier for me to become fully immersed in their world.

Although The Masked City had a somewhat predictable plot without many surprises along the way, it still provided an enjoyable escape from reality. If only the narration had been even more exceptional, it would have elevated my experience even further.
