On a rainy Sunday afternoon, I curled up with a blanket and started “The Knight,” the third book in Will Wight’s epic Last Horizon series. There’s something about listening to galaxy-spanning adventures while thunder rumbles outside that feels just right—a comforting sense of adventure paired with the coziness of home. As someone who has journeyed through countless audiobooks, both fantastical and realistic, this one struck a particular chord by blending the wide-open possibility of space with deeply personal stakes.

At its heart, “The Knight” is Raion Raithe’s story—a knight searching for redemption across a dangerous universe. The book launches into action almost immediately: monstrous threats loom on several fronts—the perfect soldiers of Karosha assemble; Solstice, an enigmatic organization within the Galactic Union, pulls strings from the shadows; and in Dark Space, something ancient and ravenous awakens. All these crises threaten not only civilizations but also Raion’s own resolve as he vows to stand strong for his friends, no matter what.

What resonated most with me was Raion’s vulnerability beneath his heroism—his desire to make amends felt so real. While I haven’t battled galactic foes (yet!), I could absolutely relate to facing past mistakes and wanting desperately to be there for those you love. It brought back memories of times when my determination was tested—even if it was just supporting family or students during tough chapters in life. Wight writes these emotional undercurrents beautifully without ever bogging down the plot.

I’ve always been drawn to stories where technology meets magic; here, Wight seamlessly blends futuristic starships and cosmic powers with elements that feel almost mythical. The world-building is rich without being overwhelming—there are layers of politics, lore, philosophy—and yet it never loses sight of its characters’ journeys. This balance made listening such a pleasure: complex enough to keep me thinking long after each session ended but still easy to follow while cooking dinner or riding the bus.

Since there isn’t narrator information available at present (which is disappointing), all I can say is that the performance drew me in from chapter one. The narrator handled Raion’s moments of doubt alongside fast-paced battle scenes with equal skill—I found myself breathless during tense standoffs and smiling at softer interludes among friends on The Last Horizon ship. Sound quality was crisp throughout.

If there were any drawbacks for me personally, it would be wanting even more insight into some secondary characters—Wight hints at their inner lives but mostly keeps our attention on Raion this time around. However, given this is only book three out of seven planned installments, I trust future entries will dive deeper.

Overall? “The Knight” delivers exactly what fans hope for: high-stakes adventure grounded by real emotional weight—and thought-provoking questions about courage and honor that linger well beyond the last track.
