The sound of rain tapping against the window created the perfect backdrop for this gripping mystery. From the very first chapter, I was hooked.

The story begins with five high school students walking into detention – a setup that feels both familiar and intriguing. Each character is distinct: Bronwyn, the brain; Addy, the beauty; Nate, the criminal; Cooper, the athlete; and Simon, the outcast who runs a notorious gossip app. But when Simon dies during detention, what starts as a tragic accident quickly spirals into a murder investigation. The twists and turns kept me on edge throughout the entire 10 hours and 43 minutes of narration.

What I loved most about this audiobook was how it played with my emotions. One moment, I was convinced I had figured out who the killer was, only to have my theory shattered in the next chapter. The multiple narrators – Kim Mai Guest, MacLeod Andrews, Shannon McManus, and Robbie Daymond – brought each character to life in such a vivid way that I felt like I was right there in Bayview High, trying to piece together the clues alongside them.

As someone who grew up watching shows like “Pretty Little Liars” and “Gossip Girl”, this story felt like a nostalgic yet fresh take on teenage drama mixed with suspense. The themes of secrets, loyalty, and betrayal resonated deeply with me. It made me reflect on how far people are willing to go to protect their reputations – and how sometimes, those we think we know best can surprise us in ways we never expected.

By the time I reached the end, I was both satisfied and craving more. If you’re looking for an addictive mystery that keeps you guessing until the very last minute, this is it. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll be rushing to listen to its sequel immediately after.
