As Alex Jennings’ rich, expressive voice filled the space, I was immediately drawn into the intricate web of love, betrayal, and ambition that defines this series.

This book picks up with the Cliftons and their extended family facing yet another wave of challenges. The story opens with a suicide note that sends shockwaves through their lives, and from there, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions. Giles Barrington’s struggle to rescue Karin from behind the Iron Curtain had me on edge – was she truly in love with him, or was she playing a dangerous game? Lady Virginia’s financial woes and her scheming ways added a layer of tension that kept me hooked. And then there’s Sebastian Clifton, whose workaholic tendencies clash with his newfound feelings for Nadira. Their love story felt so real and relatable, especially as they navigated cultural expectations and personal desires.

What struck me most about this audiobook was how effortlessly Jeffrey Archer weaves together multiple storylines without losing momentum. Each character feels fully realized, and their struggles resonate deeply. Harry Clifton’s determination to free Anatoly Babakov from a Siberian gulag was particularly moving – it reminded me of how far people will go for justice and redemption.

Alex Jennings’ narration was impeccable. His ability to shift between characters’ voices and emotions made it easy to follow along, even with such a large cast. By the time I reached the final chapter, I felt like I had lived through every triumph and heartbreak alongside these characters.

As someone who loves audiobooks for their ability to transport you into another world, “Cometh the Hour” did not disappoint. It left me eagerly anticipating the final book in the series while also reflecting on themes of resilience, loyalty, and the unpredictable nature of life.
